December 30, 2010

EINNEWS, December 30---Perfluoroalkyls, a hazardous class of stable, synthetic chemicals, is showing up in more places where it enters the human bloodstream. The latest source, researchers have found: fast-food wrappers coated to protect fingers and clothes from food grease.

A University of Toronto study has found perfluoroalkyls in feces, blood and urine. The chemicals are known to disrupt sex hormones, impede reproproduction, harm growth and development, damage thyroid function, encourage the growth of tumors, interfere with the immune system and increase cholesterol.

Perfluoroalkyls are contained in nonstick cookware, stainproof clothing, and carpet and rug protectants.
