Campbell Soup is recalling over 4,000 pounds of chicken soup products. The recall comes after the company discovered a can of chicken soup contained a different kind of soup. On April 22, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service released a report about the incident. As of now, no illnesses have been reported.

The agriculture department’s report said that the product in question was Campbell’s Homestyle Healthy Request Chicken with Whole Grain Pasta. Instead of containing the contents it was supposed to contain, it had the contents of Campbell’s Homestyle Healthy Request Italian-Style Wedding Spinach & Meatballs in Chicken Broth. The report said that the public was unaware of milk, an allergen, in the product.
The Department of Agriculture classed the recall as a class I recall. According to the department, this type of recall indicates a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that using the product will cause serious health consequences. One of those consequences includes possible death.
The Campbell Soup products were shipped to various retail locations throughout Florida. The cans have “EST. 4R” on the bottom. Campbell was notified of the problem when their corporate office received a number of complaints about the wrong contents in the mislabeled soup. Consumers who have purchased those cans of soup are being urged to bring them back to the store they bought it from or to throw the cans away.
