Inse Behtar Kaun Hai! Sehwag Picks India's Wicketkeeper-Batter For T20 World Cup 2024

Former Indian opening batter Virender Sehwag has batted for MS Dhoni's selection in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad as wicketkeeper-batter. The 42-year-old Dhoni, who announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020, has been in red-hot form in the IPL 2024 and has scored 87 runs in five innings for CSK.

Former Indian opening batter Virender Sehwag, who was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning side, has batted for MS Dhoni’s inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad as wicketkeeper-batter. According to him, with the way Dhoni is keeping and batting in the ongoing season of the IPL, there is no better candidate than him to do the keeper’s job for India in the 20-team megaevent that will be played in the West Indies and USA this year.
India is clubbed with Pakistan, Ireland, the USA, and Canada in Group A of the T20 World Cup 2024 and will open its campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5. India’s match against Pakistan is scheduled to take place in New York on June 9.
During a conversation with Rohan Gavaskar and Gaurav Kapur on Cricbuzz on Monday (April 22), while discussing Dinesh Karthik’s heroics in the IPL 2024, Sehwag called for Dhoni’s selection in the T20 World Cup squad.
“Inhone (Dinesh Karthik) ne toh statement diya hai (ready for the T20 World Cup). Ek bande ne statement nahi diya hai, uske bhi aankade dikhau? Inka 255 ka strike rate hai aur ausat (average) hai he nahi kyuki out he nahi hua hai banda. 34 gendo mei 87 runs banaye hai abhi tak. T20 World Cup mei jo humara schedule hai, jisme hum khelenge. Kitni achi teams se khelenge pehle round mei? Pehle round mei toh batting he nahi aani. Sirf keeping he karni hai, vo toh waha bhi kar rahe hai vo (Dhoni). Jo batting aani hai vo toh 3 he teams ke khilaf aani hai: Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Pakistan bhi mei itna nahi maan raha lekin chalo Pakistan bhi le lo toh 4 teams ke khilaaf he batting aani hai vo bhi last ke 3 overs mei. Toh inse behtar kaun hai phir?” Sehwag said.
Even though Sehwag has made a valid point, it is almost impossible for Dhoni to play for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup because he has already retired from international cricket in August 2020 and now only plays in the IPL for CSK.
