Morrisons is launching an Eid food box to help customers celebrate the end of Ramadan at home this year.

The £30 box can be delivered direct to customers' doorsteps the next day and is part of a growing selection of food boxes provided by Morrisons to support shoppers during the coronavirus pandemic. Delivery is an additional £5.

The new Eid Festival Celebration Box is being launched as Muslim customers prepare to celebrate the festival of Eid al-Fitr, as the month of Ramadan comes to a close.

Public events to mark Eid and all gatherings at mosques won't be happening this year because of the lockdown so activities will instead be confined to people's homes.

The box includes key celebration essentials such as soft drinks, chocolates, custards and savoury snacks, to help make Eid at home easier for customers.

Noor Ali, Morrisons World Foods Senior Buying Manager, said: "This box contains a mix of products that will help Muslims celebrate Eid Festival after their month of Ramadan fasting.

"Our food boxes are providing essential food for vulnerable and self-isolating customers but can be ordered and enjoyed by anyone."

Morrisons says it is playing an essential role in feeding the nation during the pandemic by providing more ways of delivering food direct to customers' homes as many continue to self-isolate.

The food boxes are available from Thursday May 14 at this Morrisons webpage

Morrisons said it had more than doubled its online home delivery slots through a significant increase in store picking for orders.

And the supermarket giant, which operates stores across Birmingham, including the massive supermarket in Hagley Road, is launching a new click-and-collect service.

Morrisons will introduce the new service at nearly 280 stores by mid-June.

Its Morrisons store on Amazon Prime Now is also going nationwide, increasing from 17 stores to over 40 in the coming weeks.

Morrisons has reported a 5.7% rise in group like-for-like sales, excluding fuel, during a "highly volatile" first quarter to May 10.

The group said sales were initially boosted by coronavirus panic buying, then impacted by the initial lockdown and weak Easter trading, before seeing a "significant improvement" in recent weeks.

It said group sales jumped 10.8% over the last two weeks of the quarter, with a 9.6% contribution from retail and 1.2% growth in wholesale.
