People interested in learning how to prepare and sell foods to the public under Michigan’s Cottage Food Law are invited to a workshop presented by Michigan State University Extension.

The workshop will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10 and presented online, according to the MSUE website. It can be accessed by any device with internet access. A Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development inspector will be available for the question-and-answer portion of this workshop.

To register, go online to events.anr.msu.edu/MiCottageFoodFallPrograms/.

This is a free workshop, taught by MSU Extension Food Safety and MSU Product Center educators.

The two-hour workshop combines education about the Michigan Cottage Food Law and food safety aspects of preparing and selling cottage foods safely and successfully. Topics include preparing, packaging, labeling, storing, and transporting cottage foods.

The Michigan Cottage Food Law allows residents to manufacture foods in home kitchens and store those products at home.

MSU Extension will be working with the MSU Product Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources to cover the business aspects of the Cottage Food Law.
