Teen accused of biting victim's ear off during fight on Florida beach

Teen accused of biting victim's ear off during fight on Florida beach
RIGHT NOW. GOOD MORNING. I’M SANIKA DANGE. I’M SHELDON DUTES AT 6:00 ON THIS WEDNESDAY AND WE ARE OFF TO ANOTHER COLD START THIS MORNING WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 40S AND 50S. BUT THANKFULLY WE WILL BE MUCH WARMER THIS AFTERNOON AS THAT SPRING APPROACHES. FIRST WARNING METEOROLOGIST KELLIANNE KLASS IS HERE WITH A LOOK. YEAH, TODAY’S THE LAST DAY OF WINTER AND THIS MORNING DEFINITELY FEELS LIKE IT. WE’RE DOWN TO 40 DEGREES RIGHT NOW IN PALM COAST. 44 IN DELAND, 51 IN ORLANDO, 50 DEGREES IN LEESBURG, 49 DEGREES IN MELBOURNE AND 47 DEGREES IN WILDWOOD. ON TOP OF THAT, WE’RE NOT WINDY THIS MORNING. WINDS ARE CALM AND THAT’S ALL THANKS TO HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED DIRECTLY OVER US. THAT MEANS WE’RE CLEAR TO START, BUT WITH CALM WINDS, I’M GOING TO KEEP MY EYE ON SOME PATCHY FOG VISIBILITY, SO NOT LOOKING TOO BAD THIS MORNING. TRYING TO SEE SOME OF THAT FOG SLOWLY LOWER TO THE SURFACE ALONG THE TOURIST DISTRICT. BUT OVERALL, AT THE SURFACE CONDITIONS ARE LOOKING GOOD. PLENTY OF SUNSHINE FOR THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS TODAY IN THE 80S AND SPRING STARTS TOMORROW. WE’LL SHOW YOU THAT FORECAST COMING UP IN A FEW MINUTES. FIRST THOUGH, LET’S GET OVER TO MEGAN WITH A CHECK ON THE ROADS. AND I’M MONITORING SOME BIG CONSTRUCTION DELAYS THIS MORNING ALONG I-75. IT’S IMPACTING THOSE DRIVERS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND FROM SUMTER COUNTY TOWARDS THAT MARION COUNTY LINE. IT’S JUST NORTH OF THAT TURNPIKE INTERCHANGE. YOU CAN SEE HERE TRAFFIC IS MOVING INTO ONE LANE. THE FAR LEFT LANE. SO NO ESTIMATED TIME OF WHEN THIS WILL WRAP UP THIS MORNING. BUT YOU CAN SEE THERE ARE HEAVY BACKUPS THERE. TRAVELING NORTH INTO MARION COUNTY FROM SUMTER. THERE’S ALSO A MAJOR CRASH. I’M KEEPING MY EYE ON. THIS IS IN KISSIMMEE. IT’S ALONG OBT RIGHT AT OSCEOLA PARKWAY. SO A HUGE INTERSECTION HERE. YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO USE JOHN YOUNG PARKWAY AS THAT DETOUR WHICH RUNS PARALLEL TO THAT ROAD. AND OUR CHOPPER IS LIFTING. WE HOPE TO BRING YOU THOSE LIVE PICTURES IN THE NEXT 15 MINUTES. AS THEY HEAD THERE. THAT IS NONE OTHER THAN SUNNY WILLIAMS. BIG SMILE, BIG WAVES, ELATION AND CHEERS THERE FROM BUTCH WILMORE. OH, IT’S SO GOOD TO SEE THEM. LIKE NOT AT THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION. THOSE TWO STARLINER ASTRONAUTS WHO WERE STUCK IN SPACE FOR NINE MONTHS ARE FINALLY BACK ON EARTH. BUTCH WILMORE AND SUNI WILLIAMS, ALONG WITH TWO OTHER CREW, NINE MEMBERS, SPLASHED DOWN OFF THE FLORIDA COAST JUST BEFORE 6:00 LAST NIGHT, ALL SMILES WAVING AROUND TO EVERYBODY THERE IN THAT VIDEO, AND I KNOW WE WERE ALL CHEERING FOR THEM. WESH 2’S PAOLA TRISTAN ARUDA JOINS US LIVE PAOLA. NOW THESE ASTRONAUTS ARE GETTING ACCLIMATED TO LIVING WITH GRAVITY ONCE AGAIN. YES, ANIKA BUTCH AND CINDY WILL HAVE TO REGAIN SOME OF THAT STRENGTH BACK. BUT OF COURSE, THE MOST SPECIAL PART ABOUT THIS IS GETTING TO REUNITE WITH THEIR FAMILIES. AFTER SPENDING 286 DAYS IN SPACE, NICK ALEX BUTCH SUNNY ON BEHALF OF SPACE X, WELCOME HOME CREW NINE SPLASHED DOWN IN THE GULF NEAR TALLAHASSEE AND A SPACEX DRAGON SPACECRAFT AFTER A 17 HOUR JOURNEY FROM THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION JUST BEFORE SIX TUESDAY NIGHT. BUTCH WILMORE AND SUNNY WILLIAMS WENT TO THE I.S.S. ON BOEING’S STARLINER LAST JUNE, BUT TECHNICAL ISSUES WITH THE TEST FLIGHT DELAYED THEIR RETURN, FORCING THEM TO JOIN SPACEX’S CREW NINE FOR A SAFE RETURN. THE FOUR ASTRONAUTS WERE EXPECTED TO UNDERGO HEALTH CHECKS BEFORE BOARDING A FLIGHT. THE CREW IS DOING GREAT. YOU KNOW THEY’LL SPEND A LITTLE TIME ON THE RECOVERY SHIP GETTING CHECKED OUT, MAKING SURE THAT THEY’RE HEALTHY AND READY TO GO, AND THEN EVENTUALLY THEY’LL MAKE THEIR WAY BACK TO HOUSTON. AND NASA HAS RELEASED PHOTOS OF THAT RETURN TO HOUSTON. THEY TOUCHED DOWN AT JOHNSON SPACE CENTER JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT. YOU CAN SEE THAT SMILE ON HIS FACE. AND SUNNY ALSO APPEARS VERY HAPPY. WE SHOULD ALSO MENTION THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE’RE SEEING THEM ON THEIR FEET SINCE BEING PULLED OFF THE DRAGON DRAGON CAPSULE YESTERDAY. AND OF COURSE, THIS WILL BE A CELEBRATION FOR QUITE SOME TIME. BUT THEN OFFICIALS SAY THEY WILL MOVE ON TO CREW 11, HOPING TO LAUNCH THAT FLIGHT SOMETIME IN MID-JULY. LIVE ON PAOLA TRISTAN ARUDA WESH TWO NEWS. ALL RIGHT. AND WESH TWO IS YOUR HOME FOR ALL SPACEX COVERAGE. STAY WITH US ON AIR AND ONLINE AS WE FOLLOW CREWS WORK THERE AT THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION, AND WE TRACK NASA’S ARTEMIS MISSIONS TO THE MOON. OF COURSE, YOU CAN WATCH THE LAUNCHES FROM OUR SPACE COAST LIVE ON AIR AND ONLINE AT WESH.COM. THIS MORNING, WE’LL BE IN COURT FOR THE FIRST FULL DAY OF TESTIMONY IN A DEADLY ROAD RAGE TRIAL. INVESTIGATORS HAVE ACCUSED NICHOLAS CARRASQUILLO OF SHOOTING A MAN DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN ORLANDO LAST YEAR. WESH 2’S BOB HAZEN IS LIVE AT THE ORANGE COUNTY COURTHOUSE THIS MORNING AND BOB. HE CLAIMS THAT THIS SHOOTING WAS JUSTIFIED. YEAH, HE SAYS IT WAS SELF-DEFENSE. OPENING FIRE ON THE VICTIM BECAUSE HE CUT HIM OFF IN TRAFFIC AND THEN DID NOT START MOVING WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. THE TRIAL STARTED YESTERDAY MORNING FOR NICHOLAS CARRASQUILLO. AND PROSECUTORS PLAYED A VIDEO THAT SHOWS THE CAR STOPPED IN TRAFFIC ON EAST COLONIAL IN FRONT OF THE BEST BUY THERE. THIS WAS IN JANUARY OF LAST YEAR. CARRASQUILLO WAS BEHIND THE VICTIM, DAVID SLIGH, WHO HAD CROSSED OVER FROM THE LEFT LANE, CUTTING HIM OFF. THE TWO STARTED YELLING AT EACH OTHER. SLIGH DID NOT MOVE WHEN TRAFFIC STARTED GOING AGAIN, AND THEN CARRASQUILLO STARTED SHOOTING, FIRST WITH A WARNING SHOT, HIS LAWYERS SAYING THAT HE WAS DEFENDING HIMSELF, WHILE PROSECUTORS SAY IT WAS A HUGE OVERREACTION. JUST THREE SECONDS AFTER FIRING THAT WARNING SHOT, HE UNLOADS HIS ENTIRE CLIP INTO THE VICTIM’S CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. EVERY FIBER OF HIS BEING HE REASONABLY BELIEVED THAT MR. SLIGH HAD REACHED FOR A GUN AND WAS COMING BACK TO SHOOT HIM. SLIGH WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD AND HE DID DIE. IN OPENING STATEMENTS, CARRASQUILLO, HIS LAWYER, TOLD THE JURY THAT A TOXICOLOGY REPORT FOUND SLIGH HAD THE BATH SALTS DRUG IN HIS SYSTEM. PROSECUTORS POINTED OUT THAT SLIGH WAS UNARMED AND NEVER EVEN GOT OUT OF HIS CAR. THEY WILL LIKELY FINISH UP THEIR CASE TODAY. THEN THE DEFENSE WILL TAKE OVER AND WE’LL SEE IF CARRASQUILLO DECIDES TO TAKE THE STAND AND TESTIFY IN HIS OWN DEFENSE. CO
