NY weather: Prepare for snow showers in Clinton and Essex counties Wednesday morning

A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 10:06 a.m. for snow showers until 10:45 a.m. for Clinton and Essex counties.

"At 10:05 a.m., snow showers were reported over AuSable, moving east at 15 mph," says the weather service. "Low visibility may pose a hazard to motorists. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult."

Locations impacted by the alert include Colligan Point, AuSable, Willsboro, East Beekmantown, Stave Island, Hatch Point, Willsboro Point, Clintonville, Schuyler Falls, Ligonier Point, Jackson Point, Allens Bay In Clinton County, Deerhead, Martin Bay, Plattsburgh International Airport, The Four Brothers, Treadwell Bay, Ferris Rock, Cumberland Head and Laphams Mills. This includes Interstate 87 between mile markers 126 and 159.

The weather service states, "Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time when traveling."

Hazards include visibility less than a mile, and snow accumulation 1 to 2 inches per hour possible.
