Publix opens first store in Northern Kentucky
WALTON, Ky. (WXIX) - The first Publix Super Market in Northern Kentucky is now open at Triple Crown Shopping Center on Richwood Road.
A line of excited customers grew outside to almost the length of the building when doors swung open for the first time at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The first two people in line arrived at 4 a.m.
The Publix store includes a 55,701-square-foot supermarket and adjacent Publix Liquors selling beer, wine and spirits.
To celebrate its grand opening, Publix is offering single-barrel bourbon from Kentucky brands like Maker’s Mark, Knob Creek, Angel’s Envy, and Green River.
The supermarket is open until 10 p.m.
To sign up for a Publix account, start ordering groceries online and download digital coupons, go to publix.com and select the “Richwood, Kentucky” store.

Publix’s deli and bakery are wildly popular with customers.
The full-service deli counter sells a variety of Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, an international selection of olives, antipastos, hummus and more than 200 artisan cheeses from the United States and around the world.
Fresh sandwiches are ready as soon as 30 minutes.
Some of the most popular ones, according to the website, are Publix Deli Hot Honey Chicken Tender Sub, Publix Deli Hot Honey Chicken Tender Wrap and Boar’s Head French Onion London Broil Sub.
Other popular deli offerings include Publix Deli Potato Salad: Southern Style, Homestyle Red, Baked and New York Style.
The bakery has a wide array of fresh-baked, decadent cakes, cupcakes, pies, muffins and cookies.
There are also salad, soup and olive bars and stations for fresh sushi, pizza and pasta.
Customers can even pick up fresh pizza dough ready to bake at home.
Or, buy unique popcorn flavors popped fresh in the store like Oreo, dill pickle, cheddar, caramel, kettle, and salt & pepper.

- Publix at Farmview Commons in Florence

More than three-quarters of the Florida-based company’s locations are in the Sunshine State and Georgia, but Publix has been expanding over the last five years to other states.
The chain has several locations now in Louisville.
