CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Mexican company is recalling 1,068 units of its Tec Italy Shampoo Totale shampoo because of possible contamination of bacteria, the Food and Drug Administration said.
The shampoo, from Henkel Capital S.A. de C.V., might be contaminated with Klebsiella oxytoca, which can cause infections in the eyes, nose and skin, with additional reactions for those with immune-compromised conditions.
The shampoo was distributed in the United States through distributors in New York and California, but it may have been further distributed to other states, the FDA said.
The recalled item is packaged in a 33.81 fluid ounce / 1 liter green plastic bottle marked with lot No. 1G27542266. UPC code is 7501438375850.
The company’s microbiological analyses revealed the bacteria in some bottles.
Consumers who experience symptoms after using the product should consult a physician. Those who have bought the product can return it to their place of purchase for a refund.
Henkel’s portfolio of brands in North America includes Schwarzkopf hair care, Dial soaps, Persil Purex and ‘all’ laundry detergents, Snuggle fabric softeners as well as Loctite, Technomelt and Bonderite adhesives.
