Ready-to-eat beef sticks recalled due to possible metal contamination
MICHIGAN (WNEM) – The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said a ready-to-eat beef stick product that was sold in several states, including Michigan, has been recalled due to possible metal contamination.
The Chomps brand product, owned by Idaho Smokehouse Partners, LLC, is recalling 29,541 pounds of beef stick product, FSIS said.
The following product produced from Jan. 13 to Jan. 15 was recalled:
- 1.15-oz vacuum-sealed packages of “Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild,” with an expiration date of Feb. 10, 2026, and lot code 25016 printed on the label. The product subject to recall has establishment number “6220A” printed on the package.
- 13.8-oz plastic bags containing 12 1.15-oz vacuum-sealed packages of “Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild.” The plastic bags have establishment number “V2059” and “LOT: 622025016,” with an expiration date Feb. 10, 2026, printed on the bags. The individual sticks also have an expiration date of Feb. 10, 2026, and lot code 25016 and establishment number “6220A” printed on the package.

The announcement was made on March 20, but on March 27, the recall was expanded to include the larger bags of product, which were shipped to distribution centers in Michigan, as well as California, Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington for further distribution to retail locations nationwide.
FSIS said the problem was discovered after the company received two consumer complaints reported pieces of metal found in the products. There have been no reports of injury due to consumption.
Anyone who has purchased the recalled products is advised to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
Consumers with questions about the recall can visit Chomps’ website or call Idaho Smokehouse Partners at 208-227-5282.
