Redding Police arrest man who led officer on foot pursuit on Churn Creek Road Thursday morning

REDDING, Calif. - A Redding man was taken into custody by the Redding Police Department after leading an officer on a foot pursuit.

Authorities say that at around 7:35 a.m. Thursday, an officer with the Redding Police Department was dispatched to the area of Churn Creek Road in Redding after reports of a man acting erratically, talking to themself, and trying to open car doors.

Upon arrival at the scene, the officer made contact with the man, identified as 30-year-old Joel Martinez of Redding. Martinez took off on foot, leading the officer on a foot pursuit that made its way through the Dutch Bros location on Churn Creek Road and into the Grocery Outlet parking lot.

The officer was able to apprehend Martinez, who was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on the following charges:

  • Resisting/obstructing a peace officer
  • Public intoxication
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Jaywalking
