A selection of jams, chutneys, and pesto from Anglesey Foods Ltd are being recalled because they contain ingredients not listed on the label, posing a "possible health risk". Some products by the company were discovered to have undeclared barley (gluten) or sulphites, reports the Express.
The Food Standards Agency released a statement explaining: "This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to barley or gluten, or with coeliac disease, and/or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites."
It's estimated that coeliac disease affects roughly one in 100 people in the UK, which is caused by a reaction to gluten, whereas other individuals may have a less severe sensitivity.
Those sensitive to sulphites might experience issues ranging from wheezing and chest tightness to anaphylaxis in extreme cases, particularly if they have asthma.
The agency advised: "If you have bought any of the above products and have an allergy to barley (gluten) and/or sulphites, do not eat them. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
They have also informed allergy support groups to notify their members about the recall. Known for its handcrafted specialities, Anglesey Foods Ltd is a brand based in Wales.
