James Charles Quinn Weggler

ROCKPORT – James Charles Quinn Weggler passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the Sussman House in Rockport, surrounded by his loving family.

Jamie was born Feb. 9, 1951, in Queens, New York, the oldest of Charles and Evelyn (Quinn) Weggler’s boys. He grew up in Lynbrook, N.Y., and spent childhood summers at Camp Searsmont on Lawry Pond in Searsmont. Jamie was a graduate of The University of Buffalo and earned an advanced degree from Springfield College.

As an adventurous young man, he spent a year working at a sports development center in Saudi Arabia and four years teaching and coaching at Cairo American College in Egypt where he made many close friends. He traveled the world – most notably hiking to the first base camp on Mt. Everest and safari in Kenya.

In 1992, he married Lesa Arsenault and put down roots – building his family’s beloved camp on Lawry Pond and becoming a father to Maeve and Cavan. Being their dad was his greatest achievement and brought him immense joy.

Jamie spent the last 30 years of his career as a teacher, coach, and principal in Jackman, Machias, and the schools of RSU 74 in Anson. He served for 20 years on The New England Board of Higher Education.

In his final years, Jamie faced challenges as he lived with the effects of PSP, but he remained a quirky, positive, glass-half-full guy. He loved his family, Lawry Pond, sports, music, and newspapers. He was proud of his Irish heritage and the dual citizenship he shared with his children. Jamie seemed to find someone he knew anywhere he went. He will be greatly missed.

Jamie was predeceased by his parents and an infant brother, William. He is survived by his wife Lesa, children Maeve and Cavan, four supportive, loving brothers Chaz (Becky) of Oregon City, OR, Bob (Diana) of Northfield, Vt., George (Josie) of Whittier, Calif., and John (Kristin) of Los Angeles, devoted in-laws, Dennis and Elaine Arsenault of Cornville, sister-in-law Deanna (Steve) of Jackman, brother-in-law Scot (Carol) of Thomaston, many nieces and nephews, and close friends Monica Medollo of Newport, R.I., and Mary Martin of Ireland.

A special thank you to niece, Wilhelmina Weggler, Dr. Jim Delehanty, Dr. Tom and Becky Piel, the staff of Maine Home Health and Maine Health Hospice, volunteers Constance and Shara, night aide Carol Moody, and the amazing staff at the Sussman House.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Riposta Funeral Home. Memories may be shared with the family at http://www.ripostafh.com.

Donations may be made in Jamie’s honor to CurePSP.
