Irmo Powerball player misses jackpot by one number

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A Midlands man almost won a Powerball jackpot but his ticket came up one number short in the February 12 drawing for a $154 million prize.

Instead the man won $100,000, said lottery officials.

He purchased his Powerball with PowerPlay ticket after grocery shopping at the Food Lion on Dutch Fork Road in Irmo.

“It was a welcomed surprise,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, who caught up with the winner this week.

Officials said the winner is still making plans for the prize, but has already given some to charity.

The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number playing Powerball are 1 in 913,129.
