Target confirms all 1,978 stores will close down for 24 hours in weeks leaving Walmart to scoop up business

TARGET has confirmed it will be closed for a full 24 hours in just days, shutting down all 1,978 of its stores.

Shoppers will, however, be able to visit their local Walmart for any last-minute supplies with the retailer staying open over the holiday period.

Target will be closed this Easter Sunday, meaning consumers are encouraged to plan ahead in case they want to visit the shop to prepare for any family gatherings.

The big box retailer confirmed the closure to The U.S. Sun.

"Guests can expect regular store hours on April 19 and can check Target.com or the Target app for local store information," a Target spokesperson said.

In addition to Easter, Target shoppers can expect the chain to be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Target stores are generally open on other major holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and New Year's Day.

The big box retailer is just one of a number of stores closed this Sunday, April 20.

While Walmart will stay open, Aldi will temporarily shutter its nearly 2,500 US stores on April 20.

Costco will also shut 617 of its warehouses, so shoppers should go in the days leading up to the holiday if they are hosting friends and family.

Sam’s Club and Publix are also shutting down.

However, some stores will be open for any last minute supplies on Easter Sunday.

For example, Trader Joes and Wholefoods will be open as normal

Shoppers needing any pharmaceutical supplies will also be in luck, with CVS and Walgreens staying open on Easter Sunday.

Discount stores like Dollar General and Dollar Tree will also stay open.
