Asda has removed a popular food item from its shelves with customers being warned "do not eat" due to serious health concerns.

The supermarket giant has urgently recalled its Simple To Cook Asian Inspired Pork Belly Slices after it was found that the ingredients were incorrectly listed. The company discovered that the product may contain milk and sulphites, which could pose a severe health risk to anyone with an allergy.

However, these ingredients are not mentioned on the label, with some items having been mispacked with Asda's Simple To Cook Tomato and Mozzarella Pork Meatballs. Affected products include those with a use by date of April 25, and barcode 5063089827178.

Customers who have bought any of the affected batches are now being advised to return them to their nearest Asda store, where they will be given a full refund - without the need for a receipt. An Asda spokesperson confirmed the recall and stated that no other date codes were affected.

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information please contact Asda Customer Relations - 08009520101," they added, reports the Mirror.

A FoodGov spokesperson announced: "Asda is recalling Asda Simple To Cook Asian Inspired Pork Belly Slices because the product may contain milk and sulphites which are not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.

"Some packs have been mispacked with Asda Simple To Cook Tomato and Mozzarella Pork Meatballs."

They also advised: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."

Occasionally, supermarkets throughout the UK must issue recalls for items as safety precautions when their labels fail to disclose important ingredient information. Last week, Aldi, another well-known budget supermarket chain, announced a "do not eat" warning upon recalling an item due to allergy concerns.

Aldi's Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter were recalled because they contained undeclared milk, which the Food Standards Agency (FSA) noted as "a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents". The recall was specific to the 385g pack with a use-by date of April 12, 2025.

An Aldi representative stated: "Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given. We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."
