Tops Friendly Markets plan to invest $4.4 million to remodel two of its existing stores in Fayetteville and Manlius, company officials announced.

The work is scheduled to be completed by late summer or early fall, said Katherine Sautter, speaking for Tops.

The announcement comes after the supermarket chain announced it is closing its DeWitt store at 4410 E. Genesee St. in DeWitt after operating it for more than 40 years. It’s one of the smallest Tops supermarkets in operation. It will close April 25.

The 62,000-square-foot store in Towne Center at Fayetteville will get a $2.25 million renovation, while the 41,000-square-foot store at 119 W. Seneca St. in the village of Manlius will see $2.15 million in improvements.

The work includes new decor and paint, new flooring and lighting, new self-checkouts, renovated restrooms, an expanded deli and bakery, and new shopping carts, officials said. There also will more organic and health food options.
