The Chilled Food Association (CFA), the Kettering-based body which champions best practice hygiene standards for UK chilled prepared food, won the Education Initiative award at last night's prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards. The ceremony at London's The Brewery celebrated businesses across the food and drink industry.

The Education Initiative category, sponsored by Food Matters Live, showcases companies that work positively with schools, colleges and universities. CFA has developed an initiative called 'Chilled Education' which aims to encourage the uptake of food science and highlight food production as a career choice for students. Chilled Education works with around 900 teachers and industry representatives, sharing knowledge through classroom sessions and careers and science fairs.

FDF's Director of Economic and Commercial Services Steve Barnes said: “The FDF Awards truly are a badge of excellence and CFA's win demonstrates the positive contribution the food and drink industry can make in communities. We congratulate CFA for its work to inspire the next generation of food scientists and for the success it has achieved in bringing careers in this sector to life for students, teachers and parents alike.“

Category sponsor Food Matters Live's Director David Wood said: “Food Matters Live recognises that attracting new talent and investing in skills for the future is key to the continued success of the food and drink manufacturing sector. We are delighted to support the Education Initiative Award which recognises the significant industry commitment to raising awareness of food and drink manufacturing in schools, colleges, universities and the wider community.“
